James Ignelzi, MSW

Associate

James Ignelzi, MSW is a behavioral health consultant with more than 40 years of executive leadership experience across psychiatric hospitals, community behavioral health organizations, and substance use disorder treatment programs. His expertise spans behavioral health operations, regulatory compliance, accreditation readiness, and organizational leadership, helping providers strengthen quality, improve performance, and deliver exceptional patient care.
 
Mr. Ignelzi has served in executive leadership roles throughout the behavioral healthcare continuum, including Chief Executive Officer of adult, forensic, and children’s psychiatric hospitals, Executive Director of residential and outpatient behavioral health programs, and Deputy Director of the Ohio Department of Mental Health, where he oversaw Ohio’s public psychiatric hospital system, including state psychiatric and forensic hospitals. He currently provides operational and quality leadership for a private behavioral health hospital system in Florida.
 
Complementing his operational experience, Mr. Ignelzi served as a Joint Commission Surveyor for 35 years while simultaneously holding executive leadership positions in the field. His survey experience across behavioral healthcare organizations at every level of care provides a unique perspective on accreditation, regulatory compliance, and performance improvement.
 
Known for his collaborative leadership style and practical approach to problem solving, Mr. Ignelzi partners with behavioral health organizations to strengthen operations, prepare for accreditation surveys, improve clinical and regulatory performance, and develop sustainable strategies that support long-term success. His areas of expertise include behavioral health administration, forensic psychiatry, substance use disorder treatment, organizational leadership, survey readiness, regulatory compliance, and quality improvement.
 
Mr. Ignelzi earned a Master of Social Work from The Ohio State University and a bachelor’s degree in Political Science and Economics from The Pennsylvania State University. He is also a published author, former adjunct instructor, and U.S. Army veteran.
