Ernie Allen, ARM, CSP, CHRM, CHFM is an associate with Barrins & Associates Consulting. In this capacity, he provides Joint Commission and CMS-related consultation to Barrins & Associates clients nationwide. His expertise is in the areas of Life Safety Code compliance as well as Joint Commission and CMS standards for the Environment of Care and Emergency Management. Mr. Allen is a former Joint Commission Life Safety Surveyor. In that capacity, he surveyed a variety of healthcare settings including both acute care and psychiatric settings.

Mr. Allen has over 40 years of healthcare experience. He has served as Safety & Security Director for a 500-bed hospital in Cleveland, Ohio and held several positions in Risk Management for Chubb Insurance, OHIC Insurance, and The Doctors Company.

His consulting experience includes conducting 300+ pre-Joint Commission survey consultations; completing 150+ TJC Statements of Condition; and providing consultation to the VHA (Voluntary Hospital Association) for the past 17 years.

Mr. Allen holds the following credentials: Associate in Risk Management from the Insurance Institute of America, Certified Safety Professional, Certified Professional in Healthcare Risk Management, and Certified Healthcare Facility Manager.
